Claire (Dann) McLaughlin

Claire M. (Dann) McLaughlin, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016 at the age of 73.   She was the cherished mother to Dannielle Snelling and her husband Dave of Duxbury, Jeff McLaughlin of Liberty Lake, WA, and the late Jennifer McLaughlin of Thousand Oaks, CA. Adored “Gram” to her heart treasures, Zachary and Logan Snelling.  Beloved sister to Edward Dann and his wife Lynda of Weymouth, Earl Dann and his former wife Geralyn Dann of Hanover, and Debra Dann and her partner Rick Burke of Hull. Also survived and adored by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Claire was a lover of life. She could be found in the garden, reading a book, or playing a game of scrabble with her siblings.  She enjoyed all the simple pleasures in life. Claire was madly in love with her two grandchildren. She was incredibly humble and kind and never missed an opportunity to do for others. Her handwritten notes, birthday cards, and words of encouragement were showered on so many.

A graduate of Hingham High and Newton Wellesley Nursing School, Claire enjoyed a vibrant career in nursing. In retirement she was devoted to sharing her love for God with children. For over eighteen years, Claire shared that love by teaching children each Sunday at her church. Simultaneously, she shared her love for Jesus with the children who attended Community Bible Study with their mom’s on Wednesday mornings. Claire also took delight in sitting for two adorable children for almost ten years. To all that knew her she was “Claire Bear”. Always a smile on her face and joy in her heart she enriched everyone’s life by her presence. Claire was lovely.  

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at South Shore Baptist Church, 578 Main Street, Hingham, on Monday, May 23rd at 11:00am.

Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham, on Sunday, May 22nd, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Burial will be private.
